What We Do
FIELD TRIPS & PROGRAMS
We offer volunteer-led events and programs to build community and to explore and learn about the natural world, the vast majority of which are free and open to nonmembers. All are welcome to bird with us, learn with us, and to share our passion for birds and the environment.
Field trips include nature walks to search for and identify birds, butterflies, moths, trees, plants, and other wildlife all year round.
We offer interesting and educational programs monthly at the downtown branch of the Ann Arbor District Library. Topics are wide-ranging, from travelogues to conservation efforts and more (see events page for details and upcoming topics).
conservation & stewardship
We are dedicated to the preservation and restoration of natural areas across Washtenaw County.
We own and maintain the Searles Nature Preserve.
We work with landowners and other organizations to conserve, restore, and protect important ecosystems , including through partnerships with other nonprofits, the Ann Arbor city government, and through volunteer advocacy and other initiatives.
We offer periodic grants and other donations to local groups dedicated to these efforts; recent recipients of WBNA funds include XXXXX and XXXX.
We partner with other local groups to hold volunteer workdays across the county. Please visit our events page for details on upcoming stewardship events.
education & outreach
We are committed to sharing the wonders of birding and conservation with people of all ages and backgrounds.
We partner with the Ypsilanti District Library and the Ann Arbor District Library to bring programs to young people and families across the county (visit our events page for details on upcoming programs).
We partner with schools and other organizations to offer educational programming, and we are always looking for new groups to work with. If you are interested in hosting an event with us, please reach out to our volunteer education chair, Victor Chen.
